The Australian
Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) is a national collaborative
venture supporting the mathematical sciences, which are critical to
Australia’s scientific and economic capacity. AMSI was established in 2002
with initial funding from its member institutions and the Victorian
Government’s Science, Technology and Innovation Infrastructure grants
program. AMSI’s mission is to promote and strengthen the understanding and
use of the mathematical sciences in Australia’s culture, science and
economy.
The
Graduate Theme Program is hosted by the University of Queensland (UQ), one of
Australia's premier learning and research institutions. It is the largest and
oldest university in Queensland and has produced generations of graduates who
have gone on to become leaders in all areas of society and industry. The
University is a founding member of the national Group
of Eight, an alliance of research-strong "sandstone"
universities committed to ensuring that Australia has higher education
institutions which are genuinely world class. It belongs also to the global Universitas
21 alliance. This group aims to enhance the quality of university
outcomes through international benchmarking and a joint venture e-learning
project with the Thomson Corporation. In 2009,
the University of Queensland had more than 40,000 students from 129 countries.
UQ continues to attract the vast majority of the state's highest academic
achievers and is renowned nationally and internationally for the quality of
its teaching and research. In 1998-99 it was named Australia's University of
the Year and it continues to enjoy the highest overall rating for Queensland
universities in the annual
Good Universities Guide. CSIRO,
the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, is
Australia's national science agency and one of the largest and most diverse
research agencies in the world. CSIRO is one of the most diverse scientific
institutions in the world with more than 50 sites throughout Australia and
overseas. By
igniting the creative spirit of our people we deliver great science and
innovative solutions for industry, society and the environment. CSIRO
undertakes a wide range of research to inform and improve the health,
welfare, sustainability and productivity of people, communities, regions and
industries. QCIF, the
Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation, is a not-for-profit company
founded in 2000 with six Queensland university members. QCIF has created a
state-wide collaboration providing Queensland researchers with access to
world-class high-performance computing and large-scale data-storage
infrastructure together with expertise, services and support for the
effective research application of the infrastructure. Outcomes
delivered as a result of the collaboration include a national bioinformatics
facility, the Australian copy of the pan-European bioinformatics data
collection, and research excellence in areas dependent on computational
infrastructure – genomics, tropical biodiversity, climate change adaptation, hypersonics, quantum computing, coal-seam gas,
environmental management and water grid optimisation to name a few. By
transitioning research excellence into business and government innovation and
productivity QCIF and its members are helping to realise the Towards Q2
strategic goals.
To make our powerful engines easy for business to
access they are delivered as web applications via a SaaS
model in the Biarri Workbench. In two years we have develop and delivered
a broad range of optimisation tools to many clients across a range of
industries. By successfully packaging powerful mathematics in
an easily accessible format Biarri has uncovered a
strong demand from business for usable quantitative analytics and
optimisation. This has allowed us to
enjoy rapid and profitable growth. |
