Overview

The AMSI 2008 Australian Graduate Theme Program in Mathematical Sciences is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations through the Collaboration And Structural Reform Fund (CASR).

This year, two advanced courses are being offered on the theme of Statistics for Resource Management and Environmental Science. These courses will run for two weeks from 7 to 18 July 2008.

These courses are aimed at postgraduate students and researchers in mathematics and related disciplines and will be presented by distinguished overseas-based researchers.

Statistical Tools for Environmental Problems will be presented by Prof Peter Guttorp of the University of Washington.  Modeling and Analysis of Event History Data and Applications will be presented by Prof Vijay Nair of the University of Michigan.  Participants are required to attend both courses.

In addition to these courses, participants will have the opportunity to present their own research during the Graduate Theme Program. Each participant will be required to present a seminar of 25 minutes on a topic related to their research interests, preferably linked to the program theme.
