Numerical solution for initial value problems of ordinary differential equations is a basic tool for scientific computations. At the same time it requires broad and deep mathematical theories for its analysis with respect to the order of accuracy, the stability, the implementation and so on. In the present paper we briefly sketch the development of the numerical solution in past decades with the emphasis on contributions of Japanese researchers.
