J.A.Belward and M.C.Breslin, University of Queensland Where rainfall data is required for locations at which none is available values must be inferred from data at other sites. There are many different techniques to do this, deterministic and statistical.
The success of the estimation technique depends on the nature of the input data. There is little point in devoting substantial resources to sophisticated procedures when the quality of the data does not justify this. It would be useful to check data for adequacy before a fit is performed. The scatter plot discussed in this presentation is intended to fill this role.
