Abstract.
We consider the equation

with the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions at the boundary. Here tex2html_wrap_inline155 is a bounded domain in tex2html_wrap_inline157 and tex2html_wrap_inline159 is the principal eigenvalue of the corresponding homogeneous equation (subject to the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions). The purpose of the study is the structure of all right hand sides h for which above problem has at least one solution. In particular, the following question is of interest: "Is above problem solvable if h is perpendicular (in tex2html_wrap_inline165 sense) to the first eigenfunction associated with tex2html_wrap_inline159 ?" Also some properties of the energy functional are discussed.
