Welcome to the home page for MATH1061, First Semester 2005.          

MATH7861 students will also share the lectures this semester; welcome to you too, and please identify yourselves to me as MATH7861 students.

All the information below referring to MATH1061 also applies to MATH7861 as well.

Solutions to Exercises G1 and G2 from the Reader at the back of the Workbook are available HEREfor you to check.

There is a typo in Assignment 8, question 4. The function f(n) should have the floor function symbol on the right as well as the left! It currently has the symbol on the left ok, but the symbol on the right is the ceiling function! This should be the floor function.

Mid-Semester Test

This will be during the lecture hour on THURSDAY 28 April 2005, at 12 noon.
It will be on Chapters 1,2,3,4,5 but not Chapter 11 etc. And it will be the same format as the one handed out for revision at the start of semester!

Assignment Marks

Your best FOUR Assignments out of numbers 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 will count 4% each towards the total assessment.

MARKS for these five assignments can be checked HERE about a week after each due date.

Note that the maximum marks for even numbered Assignments is 12.
And your mid-semester test mark will be out of 24.


Course materials

Hard copies of the Course Profile, weekly planner, assignments and weekly problem questions, practice mid-semester test and practice exam, and five assignment cover sheets, will be provided in the first lecture.

ASSIGNMENT SOLUTIONS will be available on the web here in the week following their due date.

The Workbook and Reader for this course can either be purchased from the Union Copying Shop, or else can be downloaded from this site (Beware! It's a large file!) WORKBOOK

There is an INTERACTIVE WEB SITE available which gives access to all solutions to exercises in the Workbook. Please use Internet Explorer (or Firefox) since the site does not work so well with some web browsers such as netscape.
Be aware there may be a few mistakes in the interactive part! Thanks to student Jon for finding an error in Section 1.1 qu.6; This has now been corrected. (4 Mar 05)
