INDUSTRIAL DATA ANALYSIS UNIT

Industrial Data Analysis Unit

In today's highly competitive environment, Australian business must manage its operations effectively. Excellent data collection and analyses are essential to achieve this goal. To assist industry with these methods, the Industrial Data Analysis Unit has been established as a joint initiative of the Technology Management Centre and the Centre for Statistics, with funding from these Centres and the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The aims of the unit are:
  • To offer expertise in collection, analysis and interpretation of industrial data to solve technology and management problems.
  • To foster collaboration with industry in the transfer of this expertise from university to industry.
  • To integrate industry sponsored studies with teaching in the programs for the Master of Engineering Technology Management and Master of Environmental Management and to offer specialised short courses on data collection and analysis.
  • To promote new research into quantitative methods for industrial data analysis.

Current Projects

Projects under current investigation include:
  • Analysis of warranty data for pneumatic valves
  • Analysis of car warranty data
  • Analysis of rolling stock failure
  • Analysis of bus maintenance data
and several projects being carried out by students in the Master of Engineering and Technology Management and the Master of Environmental Management programs.
