More detailed information can be obtained by downloading the Postgraduate Handbook.

Each year Postgraduate Information Days are held which give prospective students the chance to visit the Department of Mathematics and meet both staff and students. Financial support is available to cover travel and accommodation expenses of Australian and New Zealand citizens. If you are interested in attending, please access the website from the menu.

Postgraduate Degree Programs - If you are looking to enroll in a postgraduate degree, you first need to choose a program that is appropriate for you. A number of options are available:

More details about coursework programs can be obtained by following this link to The School of Physical Sciences. For RHD programs, please see the UQ Graduate School page  for admission procedures and enrolment conditions. If you have a specific query on administrative procedures you can contact The School of Physical Sciences Postgraduate Administrative Officer, Allison Golding, email: a.golding@sps.uq.edu.au, phone: (+61 7) 3365 2673.

Fourth Year Honours - If you are looking to undertake an Honours year in Mathematics, please contact the Honours Year Co-ordinator Dr. Victor Scharaschkin. Details about the Honours program may be found here.

Advisor - All students seeking to enrol in an RHD program must have a research proposal and an advisor (also an associate advisor) who is willing to oversee the progress of the project. It is important that you do this before applying for admission, otherwise your application will not be accepted. You should talk to members of staff who work in your area of interest about possible research proposals - many of them will already have projects available. Please see the Research Programs pages on the menu for examples. You should also consult with your advisor on the drafting of the research proposal before you submit it with your application for admission.

Applications:  RHD programs - Go to this page and download the "Application for Admission and Enrolment" form and also the "Proposal for a Research Project" form. You may also need the "Enrolment in Additional Courses" form if you need to undertake some coursework as part of your RHD program. After you have completed these forms, they are submitted to the Graduate School for processing, and then forwarded to the Mathematics Postgraduate Co-ordinator. Acceptance or rejection of enrolment will be judged by the Postgraduate Co-ordinator according to your academic record, your research proposal, and your English proficiency.

Applications: Coursework Programs - Information on coursework programs is here. If you wish to enrol in a coursework program please go to this page, and follow the links.

International Applications - If you are an international student then your application must be submitted through the UQ International Education Directorate. Please see here for further details.

Fees - At present, domestic and New Zealand students enrolled in an RHD program are exempt from paying  tuition fees. Tuition fees do apply to coursework programs, which you can calculate here. Note that there are different rates for domestic and international students.

Scholarships - There are a variety of scholarships available to financially assist students undertaking postgraduate studies. Details are available from the Graduate School. You should also ask your supervisor if they can offer scholarships, including top-up scholarships, which may be provided from their grants.

Forms - All the necessary forms are available for downloading from the Graduate School page.

Confirmation Procedures - All students enrolled in RHD programs are initially enrolled as provisional candidates. After a set amount of time, each student is expected to have completed a certain number of requirements which leads to their candidature being confirmed. After confirmation, students are able to apply for conference funding, and PhD students may concurrently enrol in a Graduate Certificate Program with the aim to broaden their array of skills. Details of the confirmation requirements can be found here.

Postgraduate Seminars - All PhD students are required to give a number of seminars throughout the course of their studies, which form the Postgraduate Seminar Series. Students are also expected to attend all these seminars. The timetable for the Postgraduate Seminars Series is available from the menu.
