planes in 3 dimensions (important point to note: what is the normal vector
to the plane ax+by+cz+d=0?); Q3 is about tangent planes and linear
approximations; Q4 is about equations and graphing of surfaces with circular
symmetries (e.g. finding an equation for the surface obtained by rotating a

Use of Calculators in Final Exam: The Faculty
of Engineering, Physical Sciences and Architecture (EPSA) has introduced a
scheme for approving and labelling non-programmable calculators for use in
examinations. This is to take effect from final exams of semester one 2008.
This requirement will apply to the MATH1052 final examination, i.e. only
calculators which are "EPSA Approved and Labelled" are allowed in
the MATH1052 final examination.
Please obtain an "Approved Calculators" label for your
calculator(s) from EPSA.
Please note the following dates:
- Friday May 9, 2008 - last day for requesting that an unlisted calculator
be added to the list of approved calculators for semester one examinations.
- Monday May 19, 2008 to Friday June 20, 2008 - period during which approval
labels will be available, for semester one examinations.
More details on the scheme can be found at http://www.itee.uq.edu.au/calculators,
including the initial list of currently approved and non-approved
calculators, and the procedure for having other calculators assessed for
addition to the list of approved calculators.
