We look at the properties and evaluation of members of a family of 2-variable polynomial invariants of oriented links (i.e. the talk is on an aspect of Knot Theory). These invariants are defined from families of underlying representations of the quantum superalgebras $U_q[gl(m|n)]$. We use a so-called state model to evaluate each of the invariants. Constructing the models and then evaluating the invariants takes us on a long tour of symbolic computation (that is, Mathematica). The invariants themselves turn out to be substantially more powerful than other known 2-variable invariants, so we are happy.
All interested are invited to attend.
