Extremal projection operators for Lie algebras and their applications

For any semisimple complex Lie algebra g we consider an element of an extension of the enveloping algebra which is annihilated by all positive root vectors. This element projects a generic g-module into the subspace of extreme (highest) vectors. We give an explicit formula for this extremal projection operator. The result can be generalized to affine Lie (super)algebras and q-analogs of the Lie (super)algebras. We also discuss some applications of these operators.
