ALGEBRA AND COMBINATORICS SEMINAR Tuesday 19 August 2008, 2pm in Priestly 641 Ole Warnaar, Maths, UQ The double affine Hecke algebra made (very) easy. Abstract In the 1980s Ian G. Macdonald formulated a number of deep conjectures pertaining to symmetric functions. Despite a massive effort by algebraic combinatorialists, Macdonald's conjectures refused to surrender until 1995/1996, when Ivan Cherednik discovered very elegant proofs using the double affine Hecke algebra (DAHA). In this talk I will try to give an ultra-gentle introduction to the Macdonald conjectures and DAHA. All welcome. ![]() (Image from: The elements used to construct Macdonald polynomials, PNAS)
