The double affine Hecke algebra made (very) easy.

Abstract
In the 1980s Ian G. Macdonald formulated a number of deep conjectures pertaining to symmetric functions. Despite a massive effort by algebraic combinatorialists, Macdonald's conjectures refused to surrender until 1995/1996, when Ivan Cherednik discovered very elegant proofs using the double affine Hecke algebra (DAHA). In this talk I will try to give an ultra-gentle introduction to the Macdonald conjectures and DAHA.
