2 simple proofs of quadratic reciprocity


Abstract
Quadratic reciprocity is a highlight of a first course in number theory, yet many of its published proofs are inaccessible to students. We present a new proof, based on the arithmetic of conics. Time permitting we shall also discuss a beautiful 1991 proof of Rousseau.
