The Centre of Excellence for Mathematics and Statistics of Complex Systems
(MASCOS) was established in
2003 and operates from five
nodes: The University of Melbourne, Australian National University,
The University of New South Wales, The University of Queensland and
La Trobe University.
MASCOS brings together leading Australian mathematical
scientists in the fields of critical phenomena, dynamical systems,
stochastic processes, probability and statistics, algorithmics,
optimisation, network analysis and climate processes.
Our vision is to be a world leading centre in the mathematical and
statistical analysis, design and optimisation of complex systems, and
to apply our research for scientific, economic, social and environmental
benefit.
Complex systems research within MASCOS comprises four themes: critical
phenomena, risk modelling, dynamical systems and complex networks.
The Queensland node is involved in the following:
In 2004 the Centre of Excellence
for Mathematics and Statistics of
Complex Systems was established as a School Centre in the School of
Physical Sciences within the Faculty of Engineering, Physical Sciences
and Architecture, with Prof. Phil Pollett as its Director.
