    General Information

The Thirteenth Australasian Workshop on Combinatorial Algorithms (AWOCA 2002) will be held on Fraser Island from 7th July to 10th July. The workshop will follow the style of its predecessors: problem-oriented papers and an emphasis on informal discussions.

Authors are invited to submit papers presenting original and unpublished research in the following areas:

    • Algorithms and Data Structures
    • Complexity Theory
    • Graph Theory and Combinatorics
    • Cryptography
    • Algorithms on Strings
    • Graph Algorithms
    • Graph Drawing
    • Computational Algebra and Geometry
    • Computational Biology
    • Communications Networks
    • Probabilistic and Randomized Algorithms
    • New Paradigms of Computation

This is not an exclusive list and papers related to other theoretical aspects of Computer Science will also be considered. Papers which state and discuss open problems and work-in-progress within the general theme of algorithms and computational complexity are especially encouraged.

Invited talks will be 55 minutes in duration with 5 minutes for questions. Contributed talks will be 20 minutes in duration with 5 minutes for questions.

A conference dinner will be held on either Monday or Tuesday evening. (The cost of this is included in the registration.)

    Transportation

Transportation information is available from the Kingfisher Bay Resort website. Kingfisher Bay Resort.

Transport between Brisbane and Hervey Bay

    Plane

Qantas flights are (only at the time of writing) $234 return, $188 one-way. They leave Brisbane 9am, 11.10am and 3.35pm for Hervey Bay.

Flights made through Qantas cannot be done from their website and so you should make the booking through a travel agent.

When you book your accommodation, make sure you tell Kingfisher Bay Resort the flight arrival and departure times and they will meet you at the airport and take you to the catamaran terminal free of charge.

    Train

A train/bus service runs every day between Brisbane's Roma Street Station (you can catch a suburban train from the airport to Roma Street Station) and Hervey Bay.

You may book your ticket through QRail , or ring Queensland Travel Centre +61 7 138833.

If you inform Kingfisher Bay Resort of your travel details they will meet you at the Bus Station in Hervey Bay and take you to the Kingfisher Bay Resort catamaran terminal free of charge. I strongly recommend you do this.

You should book your train ticket in advance.

The train leaves Brisbane 10.30 am, arrives Maryborough West 1.53 pm, connecting bus to Hervey Bay arrives 2.45 pm. The return trip leaves Kingfisher Bay 8am, connects with bus, leaves Maryborough West 11.06 am, arrives Brisbane 2.40 pm.

The connecting bus between Maryborough West and Hervey Bay is $4.40 each way. Economy fare on tilt train is $45 one way, and bring or buy your own lunch. No concessions available. Business class fare is $106.70 adult, $71.50 concession, lunch included.

    Bus

There are many bus companies which run services from Brisbane to Hervey Bay. Two such companies are Mc Cafferty's and Suncoast Pacific Coaches, email suncoastres@ozmail.com.au, phone 61 7 3236 1901. The Mc Cafferty's service takes approximately 5 1/2 hours, but the Suncoast service winds up the coast and takes much longer, about 8 hours.

The cost one way is less than $60.

Most services leave from Brisbane's Roma Street Transit Station, in the city. However some services do pick up at the airport, and you should ask about this. The bus service will drop you at the Bus Station in Hervey Bay. If you inform Kingfisher Bay Resort of your arrival time they will meet you at the Bus Station and take you to the Kingfisher Bay Resort catamaran terminal, free of charge.

You should check that your arrival times match the catamaran times from Hervey Bay to Kingfisher Bay Resort, Fraser Island. Leave at least 40 minutes to get from the Bus Station to the Catamaran terminal.

    Self Drive

If you wish to drive to Kingfisher Bay Resort, on Fraser Island, you drive north from Brisbane to Maryborough and then turn east to Hervey Bay. When you get to Hervey Bay you go to the Kingfisher Bay catamaran terminal at Urangan, Hervey Bay and catch a boat to Fraser Island. Hervey Bay is approximately 4 hours north of Brisbane.

There are two secure parking stations at Urangan. The first is run by the Great Sandy Straits Marina Resort, Buccaneer Drv Urangan QLD 4655, Phone 1800 653 620 and the second is Fraser Coast Secure Vehicle Storage and you can phone them on 07 41252783 or get all the details from their website. You should contact these organisations in advance and book your car in. I believe the cost is around $8 per day.

    • Transport between Hervey Bay and Kingfisher Bay Resort

There are passenger catamaran transfers between Hervey Bay and Kingfisher Bay Resort. They depart Hervey Bay daily at 8:45am, 12pm, 4pm and 6:30pm (7:00pm on Fri/Sat)i, 10:30pm. They depart Kingfisher Bay daily at 7:40am, 10:30am, 2pm and 5pm.

When you book your accommodation you must tell the resort which day and time you will catch the catamaran. The cost of the trip is approximately $35 and this will be charged to your accommodation account.

So when you get to Hervey Bay you proceed to the Kingfisher Bay Resort catamaran terminal at Urangan, Hervey Bay and catch the boat to the resort. It will take approximately 40 minutes.
